Re: the rattlebox
seeings as the dash gets all its info from the wheel speed sensor the cable is now redundant so i had to find a way to block the speedo cable drive hole in the box so...
take a chunk of ally...

add a lathe and a lunch break and hey presto..

even took the time to cut a groove to reuse the std rubber Oring...

Re: the rattlebox
not much to report folks...
last weekend i was in sheffield with the missus having a break from the norm...
this weekend ive been helping a friend out with her 206- new stereo (due to bastard theiving pikey scum)- new handbrake cables..
but i did get around to making the new baseplates for the mirrors!
the 2 bolts fitted go right thru the door but the forwardmost 1 needs a rivnut (i`ll borrow that from work this week!)

wednesday should see me finally settle the Snap-on account and i can start buying some car bits again...
shopping list:
washer bottle + pump
fuel level sender
fuel rail
fuel pessure reg
throttle body trumpets
wheel speed sensor
mirrors
best do some more overtime methinks!

Re: the rattlebox
apologies for not being about much...
some bits have been ordered.... some are still waiting for me to get around to ordering!!
however..
ECU + CANcable for the dash is here:

doorbar gussets have been drawn up and are currenty being lasercut:

massively massively overkill but they look so cool imo hahahaha
and finally my mate spanky has turned my chunk of billet into a lovely de-servo master cylinder mounting plate:

Re: the rattlebox
well another week another few jobs... jobbed!!
decided to see if spanks machined item fitted earlier...
despite having been a CAD draughtsman for 5 years.. and being a machinist/fabricator/tinkerer for well over 16 years theres STILL always a niggle in the back of my head saying "what if i mis-measured something" this voice gets a LOT louder when someone else has invested time in the job.. however!!
the first 4 bolts went in a treat......

then i lined up the master cylinder and gave it a push...

happy days!!! a quick tweak on the brake bar to remove any slack in the linkage and the job was declared a winner!!!!
big big big thanks again to the mighty spank!! swarf producer par excellence!!!
i also took a pic of the worlds shortest 106 throttle cable lol

my limited edition jenvey vuvuzela`s appeared:

unfortunatly they were 90mm at the fat end and my bodies are 80mm centres.. so they needed a trim up... luckily i still had the jig i had lasercut to weld the flanges onto the bodies so after a bit of marking, a bit of trimming, and a bit of filing i was able to check to confirm they`d fit once on the car..

the vuvuzelas.... well.... they fit......

any longer and the fackers would be in the cab with me...

i also started cleaning up the drivers side driveshaft as it needs a new intermediate bearing.. i also spotted a split in the inboard gaitor so decided the best thing to do was strip the f***ing lot.. clean it all up.. paint the exposed bits and rebuild with new gaitors.. (WILL DO BOTH SIDES!)
drivers side stripped down and 90% cleaned....

2 new inner and 2 new outer gaiters ordered they`ll be here friday....
also made a start on the solid lower engine mount...
(ignore the rough edges + welded rose joint link... this is for mok up purposes only!!)
started off with 1 flat plate and 1 stepped plate..

unfortunatly the offset from the face that bolts onto the box to the centreline of the rose joint was wrong so i knocked up a mk2 edition...

fit looks ok

and the link bar will be inline!!

Re: the rattlebox
nope... it completely baffles me... which is exactly the reason its going to TDF so matt+gregor can do it all.....
just been informed matt wants a new electric power steering setup and shaft fabricating for one of his ex-cliocup cars so that`ll be a nice chunk of the wiring bill...

Re: the rattlebox
Oh out of interest, if you know?? would the likes of that battery work with my existing electrics and alternator on my Cento??,
There is no energy sapping toys on my car so if i can drop the weight of it a little more i will by a few kg,it did weight about 750kg to start with and iam sure iam now below 700?? iam just not sure?untill i get it weighed,

Re: the rattlebox
ditching the std battery for a smaller/lighter "race" battery would be a good place to shed some kilo`s..... the other bonus is being a sealed unit they can be layed down and that then opens up different mounting options allowing you to get weight lower and nearer the middle of the car...
i know a few guys that have fitted these to there "everyday/track" cars without issues..
with 90% of the bits to hand i decided it was time to find a place for it all......
after a few trials and a lot of... "no, that looks s*it... no, that`ll make wiring harder... no, theres not enough room" i think i`ve found it...

to celebrate.. i made a cage for the battery:

and just incase any lanky passengers manage to squeeze past all the door bars i`ll make a footrest out of this:

i think this originally came off a mercedes actros HGV but can`t be sure... whatever its origin its now mine and FREE!!!
